Registration policy
Who can register what, for how long, and what happens at expiry.
Eligibility
Anyone may register an available .inf.nz name through an accredited registrar. Registrants must give accurate contact details to their registrar.
Names
Labels are 3–63 characters: letters, digits and hyphens, not starting or ending with a hyphen. Some names are reserved by the registry, some are blocked to prevent phishing, and some are offered at a premium price.
Names are allocated first come, first served at the moment the registry accepts the registration.
Term
Registrations run for 1 to 10 years and may be renewed at any time, up to 10 years ahead.
Expiry
An expired name is parked for 15 days and can be renewed normally. It then enters a 15-day redemption period in which only a restore (with a fee) is possible, followed by 5 days pending deletion. After that the name becomes available to everyone.
A registration deleted within 5 days of creation is released immediately.
Transfers
A registrant may move a name to another registrar using its auth code, unless the name is locked. The current registrar may reject a transfer only for a documented reason; otherwise it completes after 5 days and one year is added to the term.
